Apple’s iCloud just went live. If you go to www.icloud.com you should be presented with the following screen:
The only downside at the moment is that the only thing that appears to work is the Find My iPhone (What if I want to find my iPad or iPod?)
Find my Friends currently leads to an invalid App Store page and the “Setup iCloud on this device” leads to the following page:
It seems a little odd of Apple to “release” something that isn’t fully live, but its a good sign for things to come.
The Cupertino giant has also released the MobileMe to iCloud migration page (http://MobileMe.com/move), which will allow users MobileMe users to migrate data from their MobileMe account to iCloud. The migration process will allow users to move content such as Mail, Contacts, and Calendar data to their iCloud account.
If you previously used other MobileMe services such as iWeb, iDisk, and Photo Gallery it is important to note that these services will not be migrated, instead they will be discontinued after June 30, 2012. You will be unable to sync the Mac Dashboard widget, Dock items, keychains, signatures, mail account rules, mail smart boxes, and mail preferences. Just keep all this in mind so you can set everything up and backup/migrate anything that won’t be automatically transferred over to your iCloud account.
Once you migrate to iCloud, MobileMe users get 25GB of storage (the 20GB of storage that came with the yearly plan for MobileMe subscribers) along with 5GB of storage for free (which is offered to all iCloud users). For those of you who previously purchased MobileMe, the migration process won’t incur any extra cost until June 30, 2012. For those of you who are creating your iCloud account and did not have MobileMe, you will be entitled to 5 GB of free after creating an account.
If you come to the conclusion that your 5GB (or 25GB for MobileMe subscribers) isn’t enough storage space, you can purchase additional storage space for an annual fee. According to Apple, three storage plans are available: 10GB will cost $20 per year; 20GB will cost $40 per year; and 50GB will cost $100 per year.
